RED
Inspired by Mark Rothko and the play Red, this scenography explores the theme of boundless and emotional complexity reflected in his work. Using gradients of black and red to symbolize Rothko and his assistant Ken, I analyzed the scenic plot and translated these transitions into lighting and set design.
The centerpiece is a layered, translucent table that transforms with the actors' movements, reflecting Rothko’s boundlessness. Surrounding the stage, ethereal fabric installations and soft lighting create a dreamlike atmosphere, immersing the audience and blurring the boundaries between the performance and its environment. It merges light, color, material, and people to evoke mood and connection.
